Most "free Riot Points" guides on Google still recommend Amazon Prime Gaming, S-rank Hextech Chests, and Honor Capsules. All three are dead. This guide covers what actually works in 2026, what stopped working and when, and the scam patterns that show up in every search result for this topic. Riot's own phishing page puts the rule simply: no legitimate program ever asks for your account password, RP generators don't exist, and any site offering "60% off RP" is using stolen credit cards, which means both seller and buyer accounts get banned when Riot reverses the charge.

Battle Pass Free Track
The seasonal Battle Pass is the biggest and most consistent source of free things you'd otherwise spend RP on. Each Act has a free track that you progress through just by playing matchmade games. The current Pandemonium Act I pass (April 29 to June 9, 2026) free track gives you 8 Hextech Chests with Keys, three Champion Permanents (Annie, Kindred, Shaco), three Champion Capsules, one Glorious Champion Capsule, around 13,500 Blue Essence, and a handful of cosmetic icons and emotes. Zero direct RP, but the in-game value of that loot is way more than any so-called free RP method gives you.
Pandemonium runs only six patches instead of the usual eight, so the Act is shorter. Riot dropped per-milestone XP from 500 to 400 to compensate, which means a few games a week clears the free track in the six-week window. Don't sleep on it. LoL Esports and Twitch Drops
The official rewards page at lolesports.com/rewards lets you opt in your Riot account and earn drops while live LCK, LEC, LCS, LTA, and LPL matches play in the background. Drops include skin shards, Blue Essence, summoner icons, and Clash tickets. Twitch Drops also work when watching Riot's partner channels (Riot Games, CBLOL, lolesportsla, lolesportstw, LeagueofLegendsJP, leagueoflegendsth).
The current campaign in May 2026 is the "Date at the Park" emote drop, which ends May 24, 2026. Leave a stream open for the eligibility threshold (usually around five minutes), claim the drop in your Twitch inventory, and it lands on your account. It's the most passive method on this list.
Microsoft Rewards Free RP
Microsoft Rewards is the only program Riot has ever publicly partnered with for free RP redemption. You earn points through Bing searches, Edge daily quizzes, Game Pass Quests, and the mobile app, then redeem at rewards.bing.com for a Riot Points code. The 100 RP tier costs 2,000 points. The 575 RP tier (when stocked) costs 6,500 points.
The catch in 2026: the Riot Points option has been out of stock across multiple regions including Canada, India, and Bangladesh since at least February 2026. Microsoft's own moderators confirm there's no announced restock date. So bank your Rewards points and check the redemption page every few weeks. If you can't wait, redeem your points for an Amazon, Best Buy, or GameStop digital gift card and buy a physical Riot prepaid card from those retailers, which works for NA accounts.
Honor 5 Yearly Skin
Hitting Honor Level 5 once per year unlocks an exclusive Three Honors skin, currently rotating through Three Honors Malzahar, Three Honors Shen, and Three Honors Akshan along with Grey Warwick and Medieval Twitch chromas. Honor 5 also gives you BXP boost drops that speed up your Battle Pass progress, which means more free chests and champions per Act.
The path is straightforward. Don't be toxic, get honored regularly by teammates, and your Honor level climbs over weeks. Riot's Honor FAQ covers the maintenance rules.
Methods That Stopped Working
The reason most free RP guides on Google are wrong is they list methods Riot retired years ago. Here's what's actually dead in 2026.
Amazon Prime Gaming Capsules ended March 14, 2024. Riot announced on December 14, 2023 that "Prime Gaming has decided not to renew our promotion." Anything claiming to offer monthly Prime LoL loot in 2026 is either a stale article or a phishing site.
Free Hextech Chests via S-rank Champion Mastery were removed in January 2025 with patch 25.S1. After community backlash, Riot brought chests back on March 5, 2025 (patch 25.05) but moved them into the Battle Pass and Honor system, not Mastery grades. S-rank a champion now and you get Battle Pass XP, not a chest. Full breakdown in our Hextech Chest guide.
Honor Capsules and Orbs were replaced with Battle Pass XP in patch 25.04 (February 2025). Honor still gates rewards, but it's BXP now, not capsule loot.
Refer-a-Friend was retired by Riot on September 5, 2015, over a decade ago. Any 2026 article describing how to refer friends for RP is making it up.
Microsoft Rewards 6,500-point tier has been out of stock since at least May 2025 with no Microsoft confirmation it's coming back. The 2,000-point tier (100 RP) had availability issues across 2026 too.
Scams to Avoid
Riot's official position is unambiguous. From their phishing page: "Riot will NEVER hold an event, in-game or otherwise, that will ask you for your log in credentials in exchange for free Riot points." There is no RP generator. There is no exploit that mints RP client-side. RP is a server-side currency only Riot's payment system can issue.
The dominant scam patterns in 2026: fake login pages mimicking the LoL client UI, "human verification" survey loops that pay the operator while you never get a code, YouTube videos with "working RP code 2026" descriptions that link to phishing pages, Discord DMs offering RP for your password, and discount third-party RP sellers using stolen credit cards (Riot reverses the charge and bans both accounts).

Need Champions Fast Instead
Free RP rarely covers a Legendary skin anytime soon. The honest math: completing Pandemonium's free track over six weeks gets you a few champion permanents and roughly 1,500 RP worth of Hextech Chest loot. A 1,820 RP Legendary skin needs either months of stacking or paying.

Different deal than waiting for the Battle Pass to drop the right Champion Permanent. The skin part still needs real RP though, since RP itself isn't transferable account to account.
Bottom Line
The actual free options in 2026 are the Battle Pass free track, LoL Esports drops, Honor 5 yearly skin, and Microsoft Rewards when the Riot card is in stock. Every other method you'll see in top search results is either retired (Prime Gaming, Honor Capsules, Mastery Hextech) or a scam (generators, third-party discount RP, "human verification" loops).
Real RP comes from your wallet. Real skin and champion value comes from playing and the free Battle Pass track. The middle ground doesn't really exist, and pretending it does is what most other guides on this topic get wrong.
