Got this skin from a Hextech chest last week and honestly wasn't expecting much since I mainly run Surprise Party Amumu. After about 35 games though, Heartache Amumu has completely won me over and I'm probably keeping it as my go-to.
The Q bandage toss feels way cleaner than base skin, with this pink heart trail that makes it easier to track in teamfights. His W toggle has these floating hearts that actually help me judge the damage radius better than most skins. But the real winner is the ult animation where he literally breaks a giant heart above his head before the stun hits. In a messy dragon fight yesterday, that visual cue helped my team know exactly when to go in, and we aced them for the win. The E tantrum keeps the heartbreak theme with scattered rose petals, though it's maybe a bit harder to see the actual damage range compared to other Amumu skins.
Compared to Surprise Party which I've used for years, Heartache actually gives better visual clarity despite being an older 1350 RP skin. The animations feel more responsive, especially when canceling W into E for quick jungle clears. It's purely cosmetic but somehow makes CSing with Amumu feel less clunky. My experience with Heartache Amumu surprised me because older cheap skins usually age poorly, but this one holds up insanely well.
Is Heartache Amumu worth it? For 1350 RP it's incredible value, especially if you're tired of the base skin. Amumu mains should definitely grab this during sales. The visual improvements alone make those 30 minute games less tilting when you're behind. GG to whoever designed this one.
