Spellthief Lux

She doesn't pull in coin like the Spellthief's Edge, and can't actually steal spells like Sylas, but technically Lux is learning and reproducing illegal magic. Sadly, “Illegal Spell Learner Lux” doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Been maining Lux since season 8 and after hitting 500k mastery points last month, I finally decided to treat myself to Spellthief. My friends kept asking why I was still running base skin when I'd literally one-trick this champ, so here's my experience with Spellthief Lux after about 150 games.

The Q binding feels way smoother than base, and I swear the animation cancel on E is cleaner when you're trying to combo fast. What really sold me though is the ult beam clarity. Playing against a Spellthief Lux used to tilt me because that purple laser is harder to track in teamfights compared to the bright rainbow on base. Now I'm the one abusing it. During a baron fight yesterday, I caught their ADC who definitely would've flashed my regular ult but couldn't read the thinner purple beam fast enough. The E detonation also feels more responsive, probably because the darker orb doesn't have that bright glow that makes you think it's bigger than the actual hitbox.

Compared to other Lux skins like Elementalist or Cosmic, Spellthief is purely cosmetic but somehow feels better for landing skillshots. Cosmic has that annoying sparkle effect that can actually distract you when you're trying to CS under tower. Spellthief keeps everything clean and dark, which helps when you're fed and need to pop off in late game teamfights. Worth the 750 RP? If you're serious about climbing with Lux, absolutely. The visual clarity alone makes it feel less clunky than her other options. But if you just play her occasionally in ARAM, save your money for something flashier.
