Nightmare Cho'Gath was my unexpected main skin after getting it from a hextech chest last season, and after 55 games with it, I'm genuinely surprised how much better it feels than base Cho.
The Q rupture has this dark purple ground effect that's actually easier to track in teamfights compared to other Cho'Gath skins. Your W silence creates this shadowy cone that feels more responsive when you're trying to cancel channels or stop that fed Katarina from popping off. But the real difference is the ult animation. It's got this smoother cancel window that lets you flash away quicker after securing dragon steals. Just last night I managed to outsmite the enemy jungler at baron, chomped it, and flashed over the wall before their team could react. With Dark Star Cho'Gath, that same play probably gets me killed because the cosmic animation lingers too long.
Is Nightmare Cho'Gath worth it compared to other Cho'Gath skins? For 520 RP, absolutely. The model looks dated sure, but the cleaner animations make CSing feel less clunky in lane. And those spikes on his back actually help you judge your hitbox better when you're massive late game. It's not pay to win exactly, but there's definitely a slight clarity advantage over flashier skins like Battlecast.
My experience with Nightmare Cho'Gath convinced me that sometimes older skins age better than expected. If you're a Cho main looking for something functional over fancy, this skin's worth grabbing next time it shows up in Your Shop. The visual clarity alone makes those clutch ult executes way more consistent.
