Picked up Hextech Malzahar from a chest last month and honestly wasn't expecting much since I main Snow Day, but after 50 games I'm actually converted. The skin completely changes how the champion feels in lane, especially when you're trying to CS under pressure.
The E spread animation is noticeably cleaner than base skin, making it way easier to track your space aids bouncing through minion waves. But what really sold me was the ult channel. That hextech beam is insanely clear compared to other Malzahar skins where enemies sometimes don't realize they're suppressed until it's too late. Had a game yesterday where I caught their fed Katarina during a dragon fight and my team instantly collapsed because the tether was so obvious. Snow Day's festive particles are fun but this skin means business. The Q gates have this mechanical precision that makes hitting max range pokes feel more responsive, probably because the projectile stands out better against Rift terrain.
Is Hextech Malzahar worth it? For an exclusive skin, absolutely. The voidlings look like little hextech spiders which is kinda cringe but good, and the recall animation where you get absorbed into a hextech core is sick. Compared to other Malzahar skins, this one sits between the flashiness of Battle Boss and the subtlety of Shadow Prince. It's not pay to win but the visual clarity definitely helps in teamfights when everything's popping off.
My experience with Hextech Malzahar convinced me to make it my ranked skin. The technical improvements over base are worth it alone, and if you can snag it from crafting or when it's available, don't sleep on it.
