Festive Maokai

Big, jolly, and possessed by a literal holiday spirit, the living fir tree known as Maokai loves nothing more than to unwrap the presents tucked under him every year. He would prefer to do this away from the fire.

Festive Maokai was the last skin I expected to love after getting it from a chest, but here we are 55 games later and I'm completely sold on this holiday tree. The skin transforms our grumpy treant into something genuinely fun without losing what makes Maokai feel powerful in teamfights.

The Q feels way more responsive than base skin, with the knockback having this satisfying candy cane swoosh effect that's actually clearer for timing your combos. Your W root gets this festive bell sound that's probably the most tilting thing for enemies when you're chain CCing them under tower. But the real winner is the ult animation being so much cleaner than something like Meowkai where the cats can make it hard to track in messy fights. I remember this one dragon fight where my team was behind and the enemy Yasuo tried to dash through our jungle. The festive lights on my E saplings made it super obvious where I'd warded compared to base skin, and we caught him out for the comeback.

Compared to other Maokai skins like Worldbreaker, Festive actually gives you better visibility in river fights since the green and red contrast well against the terrain. It's purely cosmetic but feels like it plays smoother, especially when you're trying to CS under pressure. The skin's worth the 975 RP if you play Maokai regularly, though I wouldn't have bought it myself initially. My experience with Festive Maokai changed my mind about seasonal skins being just cash grabs. If you're a Maokai main looking for something that won't int your clarity while still having personality, this one's actually worth picking up when it comes back around.
