Elderwood Karthus

Karthus was a brilliant scholar once upon a time. But when a disease nearly eradicated his people, he researched forbidden Coven magic, hoping to resurrect his loved ones... with catastrophic consequences. Now, he roams the Elderwood as a decaying creature, spreading his plague throughout the forest and inviting its inhabitants to transcend through death.

After 70 games with Elderwood Karthus, I'm convinced this is the smoothest Karthus skin you can buy. Got it from a chest last month and wasn't expecting much since I already owned Pentakill, but the difference in how abilities feel is actually insane.

The Q spam feels way more responsive compared to base skin, with cleaner animation cancels that make last hitting under tower less clunky. Your W wall has this natural wood texture that blends better with river terrain, which sounds minor but I've caught so many people off guard during dragon fights because they don't immediately register the slow zone. Last week I was getting collapsed on near blue buff, dropped my wall between the trees and the enemy Kayn completely missed it, giving me time to ult and turn the 1v3. But what really sells this skin is the passive death animation. It's probably the clearest indicator of when you can start casting, with those glowing leaves marking your exact range better than any other Karthus skin.

Compared to other Karthus skins like Lightsbane or Grim Reaper, Elderwood just flows better. The auto attacks don't feel delayed and the ult channel has this satisfying build up with nature sounds that won't tilt you when someone inevitably Zhonyas. Is Elderwood Karthus worth it though? For 1350 RP it's not exactly budget friendly, but if you're planning to spam games and want every mechanical advantage, this skin delivers. The visual clarity alone makes it borderline pay to win in messy teamfights. My experience with Elderwood Karthus convinced me to refund Pentakill III, and I haven't looked back since.
