Picked up Captain Gangplank from a mystery chest last month and honestly wasn't expecting much from this 975 RP skin. After around 40 games though, this skin grew on me way more than I thought it would. The naval officer aesthetic is clean without being over the top, and there's something satisfying about the more grounded military theme compared to his flashier options.
The Q feels snappier somehow, probably just psychological but the pistol animation seems cleaner than base. His barrels look way better too, more like actual gunpowder kegs instead of generic brown blobs, which helps when you're trying to chain them in messy teamfights. The ult is where this skin really shines though. The cannon barrage has this distinct whistling sound that's easier to track in chaotic situations. Just yesterday I was defending dragon and could actually tell where my ult was landing through all the ability spam, something that's harder with skins like Pool Party where the splashes blend together.
Compared to other Gangplank skins like Dreadnova, Captain feels more responsive overall. The animations aren't as flashy but they're tighter, especially the barrel placement which feels less clunky. And while Special Forces has similar military vibes, Captain's clearer visual effects give you a slight edge when you need to see exactly where your barrels are connecting in lane trades.
Is Captain Gangplank worth it? For GP mains who want clarity over flash, absolutely. It's not pay to win or anything insane, but the cleaner visuals and audio cues make it my go to ranked skin now. Pretty solid value for the price point, especially if you can snag it on sale.
