Blacksmith Poppy

A famously gruff blacksmith working under the tutelage of Sir Ornn of the Freljord, Poppy wields a hammer imbued with a powerful magic that she believes is destined for the weapon for an unknown hero. Little does she know the hammer is the weapon, and the hero… is herself.

Blacksmith Poppy completely changed my mind about budget skins after picking it up during a sale last month. After around 55 games with it, I'm genuinely surprised how much cleaner the animations feel compared to base Poppy, especially when you're trying to CS under tower pressure.

The Q feels way more responsive than base skin, and the hammer swing on passive auto has this satisfying weight that makes last hitting easier. Her W shield looks smaller visually which actually helps in teamfights since enemies probably underestimate the zone. But the real difference is her E animation which feels faster even though it's not. During a baron fight yesterday, I managed to stun their fed Kayn into the pit wall and the animation was so smooth my team instantly followed up for the pick. Compared to other Poppy skins like Noxus or even Star Guardian, Blacksmith just feels less clunky overall.

Is Blacksmith Poppy worth it? For 975 RP it's honestly one of the better value skins in her collection. The model itself looks dated sure, but the smoother cancel on her Q combo alone makes it worth considering. It's not pay to win by any means, but those tiny animation improvements add up when you're playing her for extended sessions. My experience with Blacksmith Poppy convinced me that sometimes the older, simpler skins actually play better than the flashy new ones.

If you're a Poppy main looking for a skin that won't tilt you with weird animations, this one's solid. The Medieval theme fits her perfectly and you'll definitely notice the difference in extended trades. Should you buy Blacksmith Poppy over her newer skins? Maybe not, but don't sleep on it either.
