Been spamming Black Alistar for about 120 games now as a collector trying to complete the Collector's Edition set, and honestly this exclusive skin hits different than I expected. The black and gold aesthetic makes you feel like a raid boss walking into lane, and compared to other Alistar skins like Unchained or Moo Cow, this one has a certain weight to it that just feels right.
The Q animation feels noticeably cleaner than base Alistar, making those flash combos way more consistent. His W headbutt has this satisfying thud that makes you know when you've connected properly, which actually helped me during a baron pit fight yesterday where I managed to knock their fed ADC straight into my team through all the visual chaos. The ult transformation is probably the best part though, with the dark aura making it super obvious when you're tanky enough to int under tower. And the E heal particles are subtle enough that enemies sometimes miss that you're sustaining your ADC through poke.
Black Alistar definitely aged better than most legacy skins from that era. Sure, it doesn't have the bells and whistles of Hextech or Conqueror, but the smoother cancel on the W-Q combo alone makes it worth having in your collection. Is Black Alistar worth it? If you can actually get your hands on it, absolutely. It's purely cosmetic with no real pay-to-win advantage, but the psychological diff when you load in with this rare skin is real. My experience with Black Alistar convinced me that sometimes the older, simpler skins just nail the fundamentals better than the flashy new releases.
